Reaching out to your local Federal Member of Parliament is one of the most effective ways to help correct misinformation, such as our advocacy regarding Autism diagnoses and NDIA processes. Clear, consistent advocacy from psychologists and families helps ensure that NDIA policy and practice reflect the skills and qualifications of Educational & Developmental Psychologists.
Visit the Australian Parliament website and enter your postcode:

Your Federal MP is the person who represents your electorate in the House of Representatives and is the appropriate contact for NDIS policy concerns.
Each MP page includes:
Email address
Phone number
Electorate office postal address
Office staff contact
Email is typically the most efficient method for raising concerns, but calling the office first can help you understand the best person to address your message to.
When writing to your MP:
Introduce yourself (e.g., psychologist, parent, service provider, advocate).
State that you are contacting them regarding misinformation about which professionals can provide a valid Autism diagnosis for NDIS eligibility.
Briefly explain the impact of inconsistent NDIA decisions in your community or practice.
Reference the written clarification already provided to AEDPA (you may include or attach the letter if appropriate).
Keep the message professional, concise, and focused on the need for clear, consistent application of NDIA policy.
Example letters for members can be found HERE.
Encourage your MP to:
Seek clarification from the Minister for the NDIS
Request that NDIA update outdated website content that is contributing to confusion
Advocate for consistent guidance to NDIA Access Officers
Provide a written response outlining the position or any actions taken
Clear asks make it easier for an MP to act.
Invite the MP or their staff to contact you or AEDPA for:
Evidence of the issue
Examples from your local community
Professional statements or guidelines (e.g., Autism CRC)
This positions you as a constructive and accessible resource.
If you receive a reply:
Forward it confidentially to AEDPA so we can track national trends
This helps strengthen our advocacy and ensures consistent, accurate messaging
A central log of political responses also supports coordinated action across electorates.
